Dr. Scott Litroff has earned international renown as a saxophonist, recording artist, educator, and clinician whose work spans classical performance, jazz, contemporary commercial styles, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Known for his versatility, technical command, and stylistic fluency, he maintains an active career as a soloist, ensemble performer, composer, producer, and pedagogue, with performances, clinics, and academic appearances throughout the United States and abroad.

As a performer, Dr. Litroff is equally at home in the classical concert hall, the jazz club, the recording studio, and the contemporary commercial music stage. His playing is distinguished by a refined classical foundation paired with deep experience in jazz, gospel, R&B, smooth jazz, and crossover styles, allowing him to move seamlessly between standard classical repertoire, chamber music, improvisation-driven jazz performance, and modern groove-based idioms. His artistry emphasizes tonal depth, expressive clarity, and a highly developed altissimo concept informed by both classical technique and contemporary jazz practice. His engagements have extended across Canada, Mexico, Argentina, China, Taiwan, Thailand, and Japan, where he has presented performances, masterclasses, and educational workshops for students and professionals alike, reflecting broad engagement with musical communities worldwide. He has performed alongside some of the worlds finest musicians across multiple genres including Koh Mr. Saxman, Ray Anderson, Bakithi Kumalo, Steve Salerno, Nellie McKay, George Manahan, Rosen Milanov, Joseph Colaneri, Hana Kim, and many others. 

In addition to his performance career, Dr. Litroff is a dedicated and innovative educator. He serves as Associate Professor of Music at Queensborough Community College (City University of New York), where he teaches jazz history, music theory, and popular music studies, and directs the Queensborough Jazz Ensemble. He also serves as Senior Adjunct Professor of Music at Adelphi University, where he teaches jazz history and pioneered the university’s Hip Hop history course. Across institutions, his teaching emphasizes historical context, critical listening, and analytical clarity, encouraging students to understand music as both sound and social practice shaped by culture, history, and lived experience. Dr. Litroff is widely recognized for his thoughtful approach to curriculum design and assessment, developing carefully structured course materials that integrate scholarly readings, guided listening, historical narrative, and applied analysis. His pedagogical work prioritizes clarity, fairness, and intellectual rigor, empowering students to engage meaningfully with complex musical traditions while treating jazz, popular music, and contemporary forms as living, evolving art forms.

As a composer, recording artist, and producer, Dr. Litroff is actively involved in projects that blend diverse musical influences. His recorded work spans classical, jazz, and contemporary styles, including a major classical saxophone album release alongside projects rooted in jazz harmony, contemporary groove-based idioms, and cross-genre collaboration. His 2021 debut classical album, Global Saxophone, was hailed by Classics Today as, “…intelligently curated, impeccably executed…appealing program that ought to attract more than just classical saxophone fans,” and received a perfect score of 10/10. His 2023 debut smooth jazz single, “Never Forget,” was composed, produced, and mixed by the world-renowned smooth jazz producer and Billboard #1 chart topper, Darren Rahn. His most recent EP project, a unique fusion of jazz and Indian classical music, features his own compositions and is joined by the likes of internationally-renowned musicians including Mir Naqibul Islam, Camila Cortina, Varun Das, and Noam Tanzer. In addition to composing and arranging, he has served as music director and producer on select projects, shaping artistic vision and performance direction while working collaboratively with recording engineers and production teams. His creative output reflects a broad artistic scope grounded in technical refinement, stylistic fluency, and expressive depth.

Scott is also deeply engaged with the professional music industry and instrument development, collaborating with manufacturers in the saxophone, mouthpiece, reed, ligature, and audio-technology fields to provide practical, musician-centered feedback. In addition to his live and academic work, Dr. Litroff is an active content creator as the host and co-producer of the Us Creative Types podcast, and additionally shares educational materials, performance insights, and professional reflections with a global audience.
