OUR STORY

About Rovner®

Founded in 1974 by Phil Rovner, Rovner® revolutionized woodwind accessories with the creation of its original Dark ligature. Over the years, the company expanded to offer a range of "Classic" and "Next Generation" models, all distributed worldwide and trusted by musicians of every level—from beginners to top professionals.

What sets Rovner ligatures apart is their innovative design, rooted in Phil Rovner’s deep expertise in mechanical engineering, acoustics, and music theory.

Proudly made in the USA, our ligatures are handcrafted from proprietary materials, featuring top quality hardware that enhances their performance and durability. Each brings something unique to the playing experience. Rovner’s patented Mass-Loaded™ and Resonating Rib™ ligatures provide benefits available only from genuine Rovner products. From the original Dark to the newest addition, the LGX, Rovner® ligatures continue to push the boundaries of design and performance.

Musicians can purchase their favorite model here, or from one of the thousands of retail sources available worldwide. We’re also proud to collaborate with prestigious instrument and mouthpiece manufacturers who include Rovner® ligatures as original equipment on their products, entrusting us to help their customers have an enhanced playing experience. Rovner® has always focused on customer satisfaction, maintaining a close connection with the musicians who have supported us throughout the years. We warmly welcome the next generation of players who are only now discovering Rovner® ligatures and eagerly joining the Rovner® family.

A Legacy of Excellence

For 50 years, Rovner® has been at the forefront of woodwind innovation, thanks to Phil Rovner’s inventive spirit and commitment to creating products that truly make a difference for musicians. Credit, too, must be given to the talented team of employees who have been an integral part of Rovner’s success story. After forty years, Phil entrusted his legacy to George and Lynn Reeder, with whom he had a long and mutually enjoyable relationship. Under their ownership, state-of-the-art manufacturing processes were introduced and operations were streamlined, sparking a new era of growth and modernization. Building on the solid conceptual foundation Phil had laid and conveyed and on their own creative process, they added several new and unique products to the Rovner line, increasing Rovner’s impressive range of patented innovation.

The Next Chapter

In 2024, Rovner® entered a new and exciting phase when we were acquired by Music Center SRL, a prestigious Italian company renowned for its dedication to quality and innovation in the music industry. Now part of the Music Center family, Rovner® joins other distinguished brands such as Legere, celebrated for their world-class synthetic reeds, and Pisoni, a leader in woodwind pad manufacturing.

This acquisition is a testament to Rovner®’s ongoing legacy of excellence and positions us for even greater growth and impact. Backed by Music Center’s global reach and resources, we are poised to expand our product offerings, explore new technologies, and continue delivering the exceptional ligatures that musicians around the world have come to trust. While Rovner® remains deeply rooted in its history and commitment to innovation, this partnership with Music Center signals an even brighter future.

We’ve been setting the standards for ligature performance for decades, and this much we know: when it comes to factors that affect a player’s performance, a ligature is no small thing! At Rovner®, we produce the highest-quality, performance-enhancing ligatures you will find. We’ve sold millions of ligatures in our company’s lifetime, and we thank the many loyal “Rovnerians” who have supported us throughout the years. Your enthusiastic support tells us we’re doing it right, and we look forward to continuing to serve both seasoned professionals and the next generation of musicians with our passion for innovation. Our motto, “Innovation by Desire…Performance by Design,” drives everything we do
